About this tool
HEIC is the format iPhones use for photos, which many Windows apps and websites cannot open. Converting to JPG lets you open, edit and upload those photos anywhere. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white.
The first conversion loads a converter component (about 1.3 MB) from this site, then works offline in your browser. Drop several photos at once and download them as a ZIP. Live Photos and burst groups are converted frame by frame as supported by the library. Your photos, including their location data, never leave your device. Metadata such as location may be dropped in the converted file.
Tips and limits. Expect smaller files than PNG or BMP, with slightly lower quality for detailed images.
Format comparison
| Format | Compression | Transparency | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Lossy | No | Photos, sharing |
| PNG | Lossless | Yes | Logos, screenshots, editing |
| WebP | Lossy or lossless | Yes | Websites |
Worked example
The same iPhone photo saved as JPG is usually noticeably larger than the HEIC original at similar visual quality, because HEIC compresses better than JPG. The pixel dimensions stay the same.
Common problems and fixes
- The converted JPG is larger.
- HEIC is a more efficient format, so a similar-quality JPG is bigger. Compress it afterwards if size matters.
- The photo will not convert.
- Very large or damaged files can fail on older phones. Try one file at a time or use a computer.
- I want iPhone to stop saving HEIC.
- In Settings, Camera, Formats, choose Most Compatible. New photos will be JPG.
HEIC compared with JPG
| Format | File size | Compatibility |
|---|---|---|
| HEIC | Smaller for the same quality | Apple devices and recent Windows and Android; many websites reject it |
| JPG | Larger for the same quality | Works almost everywhere |

Frequently asked questions
Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?
Slightly. JPG is lossy; this tool saves at 92% quality, which is visually close to the original for most images.
Can I convert several files at once?
Yes. Drop as many as you like; each is converted separately and you can download them all as a ZIP.
Will the JPG keep the original size?
Yes. Pixel dimensions are unchanged; only the file format changes.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with white.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs inside your browser on your own device, so your files and text are never sent anywhere.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Very large files may be slow on older phones.
