About this tool
Extract the text of a PDF into an Excel (XLSX) workbook with one sheet per page. Each line of text becomes a row and wide gaps between words start new cells; numbers are stored as numbers. This works best on digital (non-scanned) PDFs with simple tables.
Tips and limits. Columns are detected from the horizontal gaps between text, so simple tables convert well and complex layouts may need manual cleanup. Scanned PDFs contain no text to extract.
Worked example
Rows of text that line up in columns become cells, and each PDF page becomes a sheet. Cells are guessed from the position of text, so simple tables work well and complex or merged-cell tables may need clean-up.
Common problems and fixes
- Columns are merged.
- Cells are guessed from gaps between words, so tight columns can join. Fix them in Excel with Text to Columns.
- Numbers are stored as text.
- Convert them with Excel's Text to Columns or VALUE function.
- The sheet is empty.
- A scanned PDF has no text to read. Use the OCR tool first.

Frequently asked questions
How are columns detected?
Text separated by a wider gap than normal word spacing starts a new cell.
Why are some cells merged?
Closely spaced columns can look like one text run. Adjust the result in Excel.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
No. They need OCR first.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs inside your browser on your own device, so your files and text are never sent anywhere.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. Very large files may be slow on older phones.
