About this tool
GIF is an older format limited to 256 colours that can store animation. WEBP is a modern format that is usually noticeably smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality.
WebP keeps transparency and is a good choice for the web, but very old software may not open it. Only the first frame of an animated GIF is converted.
Drop one image or many at once: each file is converted separately in your browser using the canvas, then you download the results one by one or all together as a ZIP. Conversion keeps the original pixel dimensions. Nothing is uploaded, so private photos and documents stay on your device. Very large images (tens of megapixels) can be slow or fail on older phones.
Tips and limits. WebP files are often roughly a quarter to a third smaller than equivalent JPG or PNG, depending on the image.

| Format | Compression | Transparency | Best for |
